The Z-SET Course
Z-SET is a proprietary online sleep and fatigue management course modeled after the insomnia sleep research of Dr. Charles Morin, Ph.D. and the cognitive behavioral therapy practiced by Dr. Gail Purdy, Ph.D. It is tailored to industries where it is essential that the targeted audience stay alert and sharp during their work hours. There are special applications for third shift workers, varying shift truck drivers, transit workers and school bus drivers. However, the course is an important self-monitoring device for all people who may be experiencing sleep deprivation or fatigue during work hours.


The sole prerequisite is that each individual have Internet access for at least 15 minutes per day.

Each registered user is assigned a unique access name and password. After logging for the first time the new user is prompted to complete a brief online profile comtaining a few demographic questions (each participants identity remains anonymous). The profile aids in identifying how many naps each person takes, how many hours of real sleep they get per bedtime session and generally how they feel at different times during their work day. The course then details their expected behavior for the next 14 days.

The course is broken down into 14 different lesson "sets". These are meant to be taken in 14 consecutive days, although each participant is allowed a total of 21 days to complete the course. Each set consists of a single lesson, quiz and Sleep Journal.


You have 21 days to complete the entire course, though we recommend you log on daily for 14 consecutive days. The first and last days are longer than the others and may take you about 30 minutes to complete. Most other days should take only 15 minutes of your time.

Each day you will be presented a sleep “set” or lesson and a short quiz. After correctly answering the quiz, you will be presented with your daily Sleep Journal. You may only complete one set, quiz and sleep journal per day (14 total within 21 days). If you exit at any time prior to completing your daily Sleep Journal, that day’s activity will not count toward course completion and you must repeat the lesson, quiz and sleep journal entry. You can log on again that day if you wish, or wait until tomorrow – making sure your Sleep Journal entries are always for the previous workday and bedtime. Once you’ve completed the daily course and Sleep Journal, you may not access the next Set (lesson, quiz) and Sleep Journal again until the next day (you cannot make up for lost days by trying to take more than one Course Set per day).
